What is a vinaigrette?

A vinaigrette is a sauce made mainly of olive oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. The name vinaigrette comes from the vinegar, the bottom and one main ingredient of a vinaigrette.

But the vinaigrette is a very versatile sauce. You can add different ingredients that provide a different flavor, and depending on how much you add it can be sweet, salty, or acidic.

You can add a vinaigrette to an infinity number of preparations due to its variability of ingredients. Such as chopped onion, tomato, pepper, or hard-boiled egg or fruits like strawberries, raspberries, apples, and seeds like walnuts, almonds, or sesame seeds, among others.

This will give your vinaigrette a touch unique and different flavor and counteract the fruits’ sweetness with the vinegar’s acidity.

INGREDIENTS

  • To make the dressing, place all Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette ingredients in a food processor or blender.

  • Process until smooth; refrigerate.

  • Make 1 1/4 cups dressing.

  • Place greens in a large bowl.

  • Pour 1/2 cup Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette dressing over the salad; toss until blended.

  • Sprinkle cheese, walnuts, and raspberries over the salad. Serve immediately.
